Three Salem pitchers combined on a two-hitter Wednesday night.

Neither hit led to a Lynchburg run, but the Hillcats found ways to score and defeat the Red Sox.

Three Lynchburg pitchers limited Salem to one run on five hits as the Hillcats claimed a 2-1 victory before an announced crowd of 1,710 at Salem Memorial Ballpark.

The Red Sox (21-30) only had two at-bats with runners in scoring position, and they recorded singles both times.

Starlyn Nunez’s one-out single in the fourth inning scored Kleyver Salazar from second base to even the score at 1.

Salazar laced a two-out single to left field in the fifth inning, but Justin Gonzales was thrown out at the plate trying to score.
