The forecast shows a chance of showers and even thunderstorms in the area for the weekend, but several Sussex County municipalities will try to host their annual "town day" on Saturday, June 7 — including Stillwater , which will celebrate its bicentennial.

Although the town was formally incorporated 200 years ago, Stillwater's history goes back even further. Its first European settlers arrived around 1741 with Casper Shafer, John George Wintermute and their father-in-law, Johan Peter Bernhardt, setting up along the Paulins Kill . For the next 50 years, Stillwater village was mostly German, centered on a union church made up of Lutheran and German Reformed parishioners.
