NORTH CHARLESTON — The death of a boyfriend of an off-duty Mount Pleasant police officer went undisclosed by officials for nearly two weeks after an alleged incident of gun-fueled domestic violence.

Juan Saul Rico Pacheco , 28, died at 3:38 p.m. May 24 at Trident Medical Center from a gunshot wound to the head, Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers confirmed to The Post and Courier on June 5.

Rico Pacheco was accused by his girlfriend of starting an argument and shooting at her in the vehicle before he was shot in a struggle over a gun, according to an incident report.

The firearm used in the shooting had been reported stolen in November 2021, according to newly released police reports.

The 26-year-old officer reported after the shooting that Rico Pacheco had abused her for years.
