Forget all the administrators talking to Jesse DeLoof about becoming the next men’s basketball coach at Guilford College. One Zoom meeting was all he needed to know about what’s expected of him for the 2025-26 season.

Although DeLoof didn’t talk to the players from the 1973 NAIA national championship team, he got a congratulatory text from Ken Bunker, a student trainer on that team, and Niel Wilburn, a student manager. There may be no selection committee more intent on finding the right coach for the Quakers than the people who had a hand in that championship. They were a part of the team has banners hanging from the ceiling at Ragan-Brown Field House and would be more than happy to see a second set of championship ornaments added to the collection.
