BRIGHTON, N.Y. (WCAX) - New York state Senator Dan Stec hopes the fifth time is the charm to sell off a long-closed correctional facility.
The proposed legislation passed the Senate for the fifth time in 5 years. It’s never passed the House.
The constitutional amendment would let properties be leased or sold and make sure the proceeds go towards forest preservation in the Adirondack Park.
Sen. Stec says repurposing Camp Gabriels prison in Brighton would be good for the economy.
To take effect, the amendment has to pass the House this session and again next session.
