Ntcheu Magistrate Court has sentenced Joad Magola, 42, to pay a fine of K250,000 or serve a 6-month jail term after he was found guilty of possessing and trafficking bags of charcoal without permission or a licence, which is contrary to section 68 (1)(c) of the Forests Act.
According to court records, Magola pleaded guilty to the offence when he first appeared in court.
Magola has since paid the fine. He hails from Kachimanga Village, Traditional Authority Kwataine in Ntcheu District.
