JAMES ISLAND — Residents will have to find another route from Riverland Drive to Folly Road, with part of Central Park Road set to close for several months.

Charleston County is closing Central Park Road between the intersections of Riverland Drive and Fleming Road from June 9 to November this year to work on a $2.7 million project aimed to alleviate problems from flooding.

Contractor Truluck Construction will be elevating that portion of the road by two feet and installing three additional pipes with tidal gates and valves that block floodwater from exceeding normal high tide elevations and redirect it.

Residents will still be able to access the Fleming Road intersection, said John Prorock, county stormwater project manager.
