Big E wins the Money in the Bank ladder match at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas in 2021.

In the 20 years since the WWE introduced "Money in the Bank" into the pro wrestling lexicon, it has become an entrenched gimmick for fans to look forward to and speculate about every year.

The concept is simple enough. Each year the WWE dangles a match contract in a briefcase above the ring (literally) that can be used to challenge for any of its championship belts. The winner is determined by a ladder match that only ends when a participating wrestler climbs to retrieve the briefcase and one of the more coveted distinctions in sports entertainment within it.

What started as a special event at Wrestlemania 21 has become one of the mainstay premium live events on the WWE calendar each year and led to so many unpredictable run-ins and surprises since the contract can be cashed in at any time. The 2025 Money in the Bank premium live event will take place Saturday, June 7 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, with Money in the Bank ladder matches again planned for both the men's and women's wrestlers.

Seth Rollins, Solo Sikoa, LA Knight, Penta, Andrade and El Grande Americano are currently slated to participate in the men's Money in the Bank ladder match this year. Rhea Ripley, Alexa Bliss, Naomi, Roxanne Perez, Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer are scheduled for the women's Money in the Bank ladder match.

Those who wind up with the briefcase are often rewarded. There have been a total of 33 Money in the Bank contracts handed out since 2005. Only five times has a wrestler cashed in the contract and not wound up winning a title as a result.

Here's a breakdown of every WWE Money in the Bank winner over the past 20 years ahead of the 2025 version of the event, as well as how every cash-in scenario played out once the Money in the Bank winners have been declared:
