The Johnson City-based Bristol State Liners opened the 2025 Appalachian League season on Thursday with a 4-1 win over the Johnson City Doughboys, their co-tenants this summer at TVA Credit Union Ballpark.

Bristol hurlers Brayden Gilley (Winthrop), Brandon Peterson (New Jersey Tech), Matthew Bienvenu (New Orleans) and Charlie Atkins (Dallas Baptist) combined to pitch a six-hitter with 15 strikeouts. Peterson got the win and Atkins notched the save.

Prince DeBoskie (Jackson State), Olin Ward (Central Alabama Community College) and Chris Patterson (Missouri) each had two hits for the State Liners.

Turner Ward was victorious in his debut as Bristol’s skipper.

Johnson City used six pitchers.

This is the second straight season in which the State Liners will not play
