The City of Janesville apparently found a better use for some surplus field hospital tents that were purchased during the height of the pandemic.
Assistant to the City Manager Nick Faust says the City briefly posted one of the tents which originally cost $600,000 on an online auction site where bidding had reached $1,600.
The City was already reimbursed by the federal government for the original cost of the tents.
Faust says luckily the City was able to pull the tent from the auction when Wisconsin Emergency Management and Rock County Emergency Management expressed interest in taking possession.
The Janesville City Council will consider declaring six of the tents as surplus property when they meet on Monday night. The City will retain the remaining four tents.
