HOUSTON (KIAH) — A 15-year-old boy was shot by police after officers responded to an active shooting in a southwest Houston neighborhood early Friday morning.

Houston police said it happened around 2 a.m. at the 8300 block of Cinnamon Lane near Spice Lane. Officers arrived to find suspects shooting at each other. One of the suspects, a 15-year-old male armed with a rifle, allegedly opened fire and fled on foot.

He was shot by officers who called it a "hectic" scene upon arrival with several opening fire. One officer involved is a 16-year veteran, the other a 6-year veteran of the department.

Police officials on scene said the 15-year-old's parents flagged down police requesting assistance. The teen was taken to the hospital and is stable condition. A 20-year-old woman is also in custody
