SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE)– The Rhode Island Department of Transportation announced that they will be repaving Route 7 from Twin River Road in Smithfield to Mineral Spring Avenue in North Providence.

Work on the road will take place from 8 p.m. through 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights.

The work may result in closures, with RIDOT saying that detours will be posted when that is the case.

The repaving project is being done as part of a $19.9 million project improving the area around Route 7 with new pavement, traffic signals, sidewalks and accessibility improvements.

Paving from Mineral Spring Ave. to the Providence city line is expected in July and August.

RIDOT expects to finish work from Twin River Road to Mineral Spring Avenue later in June.
