Brett Baty committed his third error of the season — and it was a brutal one. The third baseman’s miscue proved costly as it helped the Los Angeles Dodgers rally to defeat the New York Mets and snap the team’s recent winning streak.

After the game, Baty didn’t hold back in owning up to his mistake. “It’s just a very, very dumb mistake. It can’t happen in that situation,” he said. The Mets infielder called the sequence at home plate, which stemmed from his error, “terrible” and admitted it directly contributed to the Dodgers’ comeback win.

Baty had just committed his second error of the MLB season a few days earlier — an errant throw to Pete Alonso at first base — but the Mets managed to escape with a win that night against the Dodgers in Game 2 of the series.
