DECATUR, Ga. — Decatur Mayor Patti Garrett has announced she will not run for re-election this year, closing out more than a decade of service on the city’s commission and nearly nine years as mayor.
Garrett made the announcement in a statement to 11Alive, calling the decision “life-altering,” but also one that “just felt right.”
She moved to Decatur in 2001 and was elected to the city commission in 2009. She became mayor in 2016.
"Decatur has a strong history of bold leadership and commitment to make a difference in people's lives, and I am confident that this thoughtful and dedicated leadership will continue," Garrett said in her statement.
Her final term will end in December 2025. Until then, Garrett said she plans to continue giving her full attention to the community.
