BILLINGS — Batting 7 for 7 and achieving the cycle are video game numbers or something a baseball player dreams about.
On May 31, Billings Mustangs’ catcher Jack O’Dowd actually did achieve a perfect batting performance, hitting for the cycle in the process, in a 30-10 Pioneer Baseball League victory over the Idaho Falls Chukars at Melaleuca Field.
Batting fifth in the lineup, the 24-year-old O’Dowd scored five runs and drove in eight with his homer, triple, double, and four singles . O’Dowd actually batted eight times in the game and was hit by a pitch during his first at-bat. He blasted a three-run home run in the ninth to put the finishing touches on the cycle and his career day.
