LEONI TWP., MI — An elderly woman and a firefighter were injured and a family can no longer live in their home Thursday morning after a fire broke out in a Leoni Township home.

Fire crews were called at 8:24 a.m. Thursday, June 5, to the home in the 4400 block of Donnelly Road after smoke was seen coming from the roof, Blackman-Leoni Township Public Safety Director Darin McIntosh said.

Crews arrived to find an active fire burning inside the home and called for additional assistance, McIntosh said.

An elderly female resident was evacuated from the home and taken to Henry Ford Jackson Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, McIntosh said.

The fire was extinguished, but not before causing significant damage to the home, displacing the family, McIntosh said.
