CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- If your summer plans involve sunshine, smiles, and something cold in your cone, Dippity Do Dahs in Corning might just be your next stop for ice cream.
As part of Good Morning Twin Tiers’ summer series, Twin Tiers Scoop, we visited the local shop known for making ice cream the old-fashioned way: with heart, high-quality ingredients, and a dash of science.
“Our goal was to make homemade ice cream like what I remember having growing up on my grandfather’s dairy farm,” said owner Ben Calkins. “Not soft-serve walk-up that has its place too, but just the real stuff.”
That “real stuff” is churned by hand right on Market Street in the heart of Corning’s Gaffer District. It takes about 10 minutes to spin each batch, and the process is equal parts culinary craft and food
