If you intended to have a cookout this weekend, you may want to have a contingency plan as severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and possibly hail are in the forecast.

"For today, we're in a little bit of a transition where the central and southern part of the state will be mainly dry," Daniel Lamb, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jackson , said Friday, June 6. "Further north there will be chances of thunderstorms this afternoon into this evening.

"Some of those storms could be severe with damaging wind gusts and hail up to quarter size . Saturday, we'll start to see chances expand and that will continue into next week."
