CROWLEY, La. (KLFY) -- The Crowley Fire Department responded to a house fire on North Avenue A in Crowley Thursday afternoon. The homeowner was Vernon Martin, long-time Crowley city councilman. Martin has been a city council member since 1998.
There were no serious injuries in the fire, but Martin said this is due to God and his grandson, Tyler Roberts, who he said saved his life.
"My grandson bust through the door and he hollered pawpaw the house is on fire," Martin said. "If it wouldn't have been for him I don't think we would have made it."
Roberts said he had a feeling something wasn't right.
"Something just told me something was wrong, it was like an instinct, because I didn't smell nothing or see nothing," Roberts said. "My room is furthest in the back so the smoke hadn't even tr
