FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) — Three dogs are safe thanks to a group of Fort Wayne police officers who rescued them from a massive fire that had spread into their kennels.
According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, police were called to a home in the 3700 block of South Hanna Street just after midnight Wednesday to investigate a structure fire.
There, officers saw a detached garage completely in flames and spreading to surrounding buildings. They quickly began to evacuate nearby homes, and while doing so, they noticed a dog trapped inside a kennel, surrounded by fire.
Bodycam footage shows two officers rushing to the kennel to pry open the gate and release the dog. Another officer is heard calling for the dog to take get it as far away from the fire as possible.
