The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has turned down a request by some political parties to audit the Electoral Management System (EMS), citing concerns over system security and institutional control.
In a three-page letter addressed to the concerned political parties, MEC Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja said the scope of the audit proposed by the parties does not point to any irregularities that would warrant such an investigation.
“The submitted scope resembles a structured forensic investigation rather than a professional ICT assurance exercise,” reads part of the letter signed by Justice Mtalimanja.
