ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)--- A controversial bill known as Medical Aid in Dying could be moving forward in the New York State Legislature.

Medical Aid in Dying would allow a mentally capable adult with a terminal illness and six months or less to live to have the option to request a prescription which would allow them to die.

The bill recently passed in the New York Assembly and soon, it could be voted on for the first time in the Senate.

"We did have a conference on it, and it again, the conversation has evolved on it considerably," said Senate Majority Leader, Andrea Stewart-Cousins. "I do believe there are votes and it is likely that it will come to the floor."
