EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — With summer right around the corner, CenterPoint Energy wants to remind customers to call 8-1-1 before starting any outdoor digging projects.

Safe digging practices are required by state law and help prevent damage to underground natural gas, electric, communications, water, and sewer lines.

Digging without knowing the approximate location of underground utilities can result in serious injury, including death, as well as service disruptions, fines, and costly repairs.

Calling 8-1-1 is a free service that allows utility lines to be located and marked before you dig.
