The Alabama Tombigbee Regional Commission is sending out a warning about fraud and scams.
It hosted a free Fraud Summit yesterday at the Selma-Dallas County Public Library.
The event offered tips and resources to help people protect themselves from scams, which often target senior citizens.
Attendees were warned against responding to suspicious calls, texts or mail and told to contact police for help.
“You may get a text from what you think is the postal service or UPS with a package or paying a toll for a toll road. Those are all scams. The best thing is not to respond at all. Don’t click on a link. They could easily take your information that’s on your phone,” Sherri Bush of the Alabama Tombigbee Regional Commission told Action 8 News.
