A trespassing call led to the discovery of a heartbreaking animal neglect situation in eastern Jones County on Wednesday, June 4.

Deputies with the Jones County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of trespassing at a home on Line Road. When they arrived, they arrested Zachary McInnis, 32, on a charge of Trespassing, Entering, Or Remaining After Being Forbidden To Do So. McInnis was taken to the Jones County Adult Detention Facility, where he remains pending his initial appearance in Justice Court.

But while investigating the property, deputies made a disturbing discovery—dozens of malnourished cats and kittens living in and around the home, many in poor health.
