CATAWBA, N.C. — A Catawba County man could spend up to 33 years in prison for shooting his longtime girlfriend and killing her mother in 2022.

Shykwon Rashard Gibbs, 28, was sentenced to 26 to 33 years in prison for second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, in connection with the killing of 47-year-old Amy Raelynn Phillips and for shooting his longtime girlfriend in June 2022.

Catawba County deputies responded to a shooting at a home on 30th Street Northeast in Conover on June 19, 2022. When deputies arrived, they found Phillips dead from a gunshot wound. Her daughter, 23-year-old Keiyara Kelly Johnson, was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being shot multiple times.
