BOISE, Idaho — The federal government recently approved Idaho's request to end a pandemic-era program that pays parents and spouses to care for their disabled loved ones, leaving families uncertain about their future caregiving arrangements.
"Parents and spouses, we are dependable," Nathan Hill said. "We never call in sick. We have a very fond and genuine love. It's a tremendous amount of stress that will undoubtedly put some families over the top."
Hill is paid through the Family Personal Care Services program to help care for his 16-year-old son, who is developmentally and physically disabled after being diagnosed with brain cancer as a baby. Hill said the decision creates enormous stress for affected families.
