A new Interstate 195 westbound Washington Bridge will cost $427 million to build and will not be ready for drivers until late 2028, Gov. Dan McKee announced on June 6.

The new bridge pricetag is much higher than what McKee's Department of Transportation expected a new bridge to cost when they decided to tear the old one down, and the new estimated timeline to completion is twice as long.

What happened to the westbound Washington Bridge

The old westbound bridge was closed suddenly on the afternoon of Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, three days after engineers who had been working to repairs the span found damage and structural instability that warned of potential catastrophic collapse.
