WASHINGTON – When Elon Musk this week came out pointedly against President Donald Trump’s massive tax and spending bill, Sen. Ron Johnson saw it as something of a vindication.

“I think it has an impact,” said Johnson, who has emerged as a leading critic of Trump’s budget bill that Johnson warns will expand the federal debt. “I think it helps bolster, certainly, my case that we have to address this.”

Other Republicans in Wisconsin’s congressional delegation, meanwhile, doubled down on support for Trump and his bill.

“I am very proud to stand with @realDonaldTrump and the One Big Beautiful Bill,” Rep. Derrick Van Orden wrote on X. “We are delivering on the mandate given by the American people.”
