A vehicle crash involving big rigs shut down southbound lanes of the Capital City Freeway just south of Watt Avenue and the freeway merge with Interstate 80, triggering major delays during the Friday morning commute.
The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert shortly after 6:30 a.m. after the semi jackknifed across multiple lanes of the freeway, also known as Business 80, and began leaking diesel. Crews responded quickly to contain the spill, which was initially reported to be spreading across the roadway.
The CHP’s incident log said the crash occurred after a white semi collided with another big rig with a white trailer. A silver Honda was also caught up in the wreck, the log said.
The CHP’s North Sacramento office warned of significant congestion in the area and delays for commut
