ESSEXVILLE, MI – Bill Williamson gave Essexville Garber boys soccer a spark.

Now he’s passing the torch.

After 13 seasons at the helm of the Dukes, Williamson retired from the position of varsity head coach. And his successor is already decked out in Garber blue.

Garber girls soccer coach Brent Betzold was named boys soccer coach on Friday and now begins preparation for his first fall sports season.

“He brings a lot of passion, a lot of energy, a lot of knowledge and he’s well-organized,” Garber athletic director Dave Schwartz said of Betzold. “His son is a player, so I know he wanted to get into the boys program if the opportunity came up. Now he’s got the opportunity and we’re excited about him.”
