ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Job Corps centers throughout the country are wondering what’s next after the Department of Labor announced it would be closing all 99 of its centers , two of which are in Virginia.

“It came as a shock to all of us.”

The Corps provides young adults with opportunities to earn a higher education and acquire trade-specific skills in safe locations. Some students live on campus. Others commute for classes.

“It was really devastating to learn that they had 130 employees that would be impacted and 78 students, 22 of which are from our region in Lynchburg,” Executive Director of Virginia Career Works Traci Blido said.
