CHICO, Calif. - Chico police have captured the suspect in a shooting that occurred on May 1, 2025 , following a five-week investigation and a tense SWAT standoff.

The incident took place at a home on West 9th Street and Normal Avenue around 10 p.m. on May 1. Police responded to reports of a shooting. A male victim was discovered with gunshot wounds and was taken hospital in critical condition. He is now recovering from his injuries. Police closed 9th St. at Normal Ave. for nine hours as they were investigating.

Police later identified 34-year-old Hector Joseph Chirino as the primary suspect. Despite arresting several people on unrelated warrants that night, Chirino managed to evade capture.
