CRESCO, Iowa – The man accused of trying to kill four North Iowa law enforcement officers is pleading not guilty.

Mark Michael Zweibohmer, 45 of Elma, has entered a not guilty plea to four counts of attempted murder of a peace officer.

Law enforcement says Zweibohmer called 911 and asked for a welfare check at his home, then Zweibohmer fired at law enforcement when they arrived. He’s accused of shooting at Howard County Sheriff Rick Busch, Howard County sheriff’s deputies Jacob Hofstra and Benjamin Hillyer, and Iowa State Patrol trooper Wyatt Ronnebaum.

No one was injured in the incident on May 28.

No trial date has been set.
