Police arrested a 21-year-old Massachusetts man after gunshots rang out Thursday night near Hampton Beach.

Officers responded to reported shots fired near Ocean Boulevard and G Street at 7:35 p.m. and found a firearm at the scene. Investigators took a person matching the description of the shooter shortly after. There were no reported injuries and there was no ongoing threat to public safety, police said.

Connor Knowles of Northborough, Mass., was charged with being a felon in possession of a dangerous weapon, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, falsifying physical evidence, resisting arrest and criminal trespassing, according to a written news release from the Hampton Police Department.

Knowles was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Hampton’s district court.
