South Bend leaders say they are taking steps to prevent another violent summer, following back-to-back years of shootings at neighborhood gatherings. In July 2023, gunfire erupted, with more than 130 rounds injuring three people. Two months later, another gathering saw over 100 shots fired and four people hurt. Officials say they plan to improve safety measures and address potential issues before they escalate. They’re also calling on residents to get involved in keeping community events peaceful.
