MADISON (WKOW) — A boat fire on Lake Monona prompted a quick response from the Madison Fire Department Thursday night. No injuries were reported.
The fire occurred near the Olin-Turville boat launch, where a pontoon boat caught fire. The lake rescue team was called at 9:52 p.m. and arrived at the scene by 9:58 p.m., according to a press release.
Once on site, the team discovered that the only person aboard had managed to swim to shore safely and was unharmed.
The fire was challenging to extinguish as the unanchored boat continued to drift toward the shore, said spokesperson Scott Strassburg. However, the firefighters used their fire boat's onboard pump and water cannon to put out the flames.
