WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Two 18-year-olds from Maryland were arrested in connection with an armed robbery that happened Thursday in Northwest D.C., police announced on Friday.

Just after 5:30 p.m., the two suspects approached a man, who was sitting outside a 7-Eleven in the 1600 block of 7th Street NW, and the three started a casual conversation.

The mood changed, however, when one of the suspects reached over and took the man's backpack and walked away, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) detailed in a police report.

When the man tried getting his bag back, the second suspect lifted his shirt, displayed a gun and threatened him, MPD said.

The man later told police he backed away after seeing the gun, and the first suspect said, "you want to come up off the phone."
