The wreck happened in Woodmere, at the intersection of West Broadway and Howard Avenue, at around 9 a.m. Friday, June 6, according to the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department.

A 78-year-old woman was driving a Mercedes eastbound on West Broadway when she collided with a Honda SUV also traveling eastbound, Nassau County Police said.

The Mercedes driver then lost control and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn. While overturning the Mercedes then collided with a Nissan Rogue.

The driver of the Nissan, a 33-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Honda, a 27-year-old woman, was not injured. She was accompanied by her infant child, who was also uninjured, police said.

Emergency crews from multiple agencies spent nearly 30 minutes working to free the occupants of the Mercedes, according to the Woodmere Fire Department.

Authorities had not released the victim’s identity as of Friday evening. The Nassau County Police Department is investigating the crash.
