CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) -- A reported text scam is making its way through West Virginia.

According to a press release, the West Virginia DMV warned community members about a text message payment scam in the Mountain State where the messages ask for payment for an outstanding toll account.

The press release stated that the text messages include information where the scammers request payment for an unpaid toll account and list a variety of consequences if payment is not made.

According to the press release, the consequences that the scammers reportedly include in the texts include the vehicle registration being suspended, information about the violation being recorded in the DMV enforcement database, mandatory payment of 35 percent administrative service fee, revoking their driver's license
