ROYERSFORD — Olivia Smith is Perkiomen Valley’s designated player, so she doesn’t slap on a mitt and go play defense with the rest of her teammates.
Smith’s job is to hit and offensively support PV senior starting pitcher Maci Strechay, who has guided the program to the doorstep of a state championship with one stellar performance after another in the circle.
It’s a job Smith takes quite seriously, and her performance this week backs that assertion. A few days after knocking in a run and stealing a base in PV’s opening-round win of the state tournament on Monday, the PV junior again delivered in the clutch in Thursday’s PIAA-6A quarterfinals bout against fellow District 1 foe Council Rock South. With her team clinging to a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning, Smith ripped a two-run single with
