A multiday stretch of severe weather, with the potential for significant tornadoes, continues Friday across the southern Plains and the mid-South. Damaging winds will accompany several sprawling storm complexes that could reach all the way east to the Tennessee Valley and Appalachians, while the Texas and Colorado High Plains will deal with rotating supercell thunderstorms and a few tornadoes.

More than a dozen tornadoes were reported west of Lubbock, Texas, on Thursday, along with hail up to the size of DVDs and winds gusting over 100 mph. The town of Smyer, west of Lubbock, logged winds gusting to 109 mph.
