GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - As the school year comes to an end, many teachers and parents are celebrating their graduating students.

The Gainesville Empowerment Zone Family Learning Center opened two years ago, and this year’s preschool class consisted of 13 scholars. All 13 have graduated and are deemed kindergarten-ready. One student even earned a nearly perfect score on the state assessment.

“Most parents are working nowadays, and we are at the forefront.” Breanna Graham, a teacher, shared.” Parents are always the first teachers, but now they need us just as much. After Covid, things changed so a lot of parents went back to work, so we’re here to try to help those students get to where they need to be while also helping the parents.”
