TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) - Teenagers will have more requirements to get their driver’s licenses under a new Florida law.

Starting this July 1, people under 18 wanting to get their driver’s license will need to pass a driver’s ed class.

Before, they only needed to pass the test and a substance abuse course.

Rep. Michelle Salzman, (R) Escambia County, said the extra training will help make drivers better across the state.

“Mandating the classroom portion of driver’s education in Florida is going to change things in so many ways. These kids are going to learn about defensive driving, distracted driving, things they would not have had to learn,” Rep. Salzman said.
