The Boston Red Sox are heading into their series against the rival New York Yankees with some serious questions looming.

After several significant win-now pieces were added to the roster in the offseason, the team has been one of baseball's biggest disappointments with a losing record and fourth-place standing in the division. Injuries can take a large portion of the blame, but manager Alex Cora is also facing scrutiny over his performance.

"The walls have been closing in on Cora. Fans are not happy with him," wrote Dan Shaughnesssy of The Boston Globe . "Last July, Cora signed a three-year, $21.75 million contract extension, making him the second-highest-paid manager in baseball. Since that day, the Sox are 54-65."
