A study of the city of Reno's parking system found that inconsistent enforcement and outdated vendor contracts have led to years of inefficiencies and $2.66 million in uncollected fees over the past five years.
The report by Dixon Resources Unlimited arrived just after news that the city faces a $25.6 million projected shortfall for fiscal year 2026 .
The assessment looked at the nine departments that oversee the city’s parking system, including meters. The key takeaways were that there was no cohesive oversight and the system lacked proper procedures.
This led to increased costs to the city. Just under $1.2 million in citations were written off over the past five years. According to the report, active collection of outstanding citations has not occurred in two years.
