AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin-based neuro-technology company is making history in an effort to find a cure for epilepsy.
Paradromics, Inc. says it has successfully implanted its Connexus interface device inside a patient's brain to study the effects of epilepsy.
The computer chip, also known as a brain-computer interface (BCI), reads brain signals, then uses artificial intelligence to translate those signals.
Company officials say this successful procedure comes after three years of pre-clinical studies. The chip was inserted, briefly used and then removed.
Elon Musk’s company, Neuralink, is a competitor of Paradromics.
Neuralink conducted its first human implantation of their BCI in January, according to the company’s website .
