MADISON (WKOW) — Are you thinking about adopting a pet but aren't sure how to start? Lisa Bernard, development & communications supervisor, sat down with 27 News to talk about the Dane County Humane Society and what you should think about when looking to adopt.

Dane County Humane Society (DCHS) is a local nonprofit animal shelter. DCHS provides care and shelter to thousands of companion, exotic, barnyard and wild animals every year.

When adopting a pet, Bernard said it's a good idea to consider your own lifestyle to figure out what animal might be a good match.

"What are they looking for in an animal that would meet that lifestyle? Are you looking for a puppy? Are you going to spend time training that puppy? Are you looking for a kitten? Or do you want an older pet?" Bernard said.
