Tuesday’s series opener against the Guardians turned into a pitchers’ duel, with Carlos Rodón and Tanner Bibee trading zeroes early. New York opened the scoring in the fifth on a DJ LeMahieu RBI single, but otherwise looked a bit overmatched with Bibee pumping in 97 mph fastballs. When Jazz Chisholm Jr. grabbed the lead back for the Yankees with a solo home run after the Guardians tied the game in the top of the seventh, it became imperative that the Yankees keep up the pressure on Bibee with his velocity diminishing and Cleveland’s lockdown bullpen looming.
