CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - A 5-year-old girl who was the object of a Campbell County Sheriff’s Office search has been found safe, according to investigators, who are still looking for her father.

Peyton Marie Knight was recovered after an extensive search, according to the Sheriff’s Office , which thanks the community for its vigilance and support. No information has been given about where the girl was or how she was found.

The search remains active for her father, Cal Lee Davis, Jr., who is wanted on charges of abduction and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The Sheriff’s Office says Davis failed to return Peyton to her legal guardian during an ongoing custody investigation. Investigators believe Davis is in the Central Virginia region.
